KALAHARI GAME RESERVE, BOTSWANA
The Central Kalahari Game Reserve is characterised by vast open plains, ancient riverbeds, dry saltpans, undulating sand dunes and flat bushveld. This diversity in the terrain allows for an abundance of animal and birdlife, with a fascinating array of Kalahari desert plantlife.
This beautiful and expansive reserve of the Central Kalahari is one of the most remote and unspoiled parts of Africa. At certain times of the year, usually during the summer rains, the northern section of the Park is one of the prime game viewing areas of Botswana, not to mention the breathtaking landscapes that await discovery.
The Central Kalahari Game Reserve was originally established in 1961 as a sanctuary for its human inhabitants, the nomadic Bushmen or San people, who now reside in small village communities in the Reserve. Today, a wealth of extraordinary plant and animal life flourishes within this expansive landscape. This area should certainly feature prominently in one's list of places to visit in Botswana.
