Tour Overview:

Day 1: Dar es Salaam to Mikumi National Park. Pick up from Dar es salaam Hotel and drive to Mikumi . Lunch at Vuma Hills Tented Camp. After lunch relax. Late afternoon game drive in Mikumi National Park. This park is famous for its open grasslands and the mountain ranges that border the park. A full spectrum of wildlife can be viewed here including wild dog and over 300 species of bird. [BLD]

Day 2: Udzungwa National Park. After breakfast depart with packed lunch to Udzungwa National Park. This is the newest national park, opened to the public in 1992, and one of the most beautiful wilderness areas in Tanzania. Covering an area of 1900 km2, the uniqueness of this park lies in its biodiversity in hosting a variety of animals and plant species not found anywhere else in the world. The red colubus and the Sanje crested manabrey, elephants, buffalos, leopards, and sable antelopes are some of the residents in this park. A good range of birdlife is present which includes Rufous winged sunbird, Iringa akalat, Lagden’s bush shrike and Udzungwa partridge.

Enjoy an optional guided hike to the Sanje water falls and spectacular views of the south west plateau. (guide fees to be paid direct on arrival at the gate at approximately U$20 per group). Return to Vuma Hills in the late afternoon. For the less adventurous there is the option of a full day game drive in Mikumi National Park provided by  Vuma Hills Tented Camp (own cost). [BLD]

Day 3: Ruaha National Park. Depart in the morning after breakfast for Ruaha National Park. Drive through the tea estates, up the rift escarpment through Iringa town and into the park with packed lunch en-route. Time for a late afternoon game drive before returning to our lodge just outside the park. [BLD]

Day 4-5: Ruaha National Park. The next two days are spent game driving in Ruaha National Park, one of Tanzania’s best kept secrets. A large variety of game is seen including hippo, crocodile, waterbuck, lion ,leopard, hyena, wild dog, greater and lesser Kudu. Ruaha is the country’s biggest elephant sanctuary and home to over 370 species of Birds. [BLD, BLD]

Day 6: Morongoro. After breakfast and a game drive in Ruaha National Park, a late morning departure takes us to Morogoro  where we will overnight.

Day 7: Selous Game Reserve. After breakfast depart to Selous Game Reserve with packed lunch and a  game drive en-route. Selous is the largest game reserve in Africa and covers 55,000km² what is four times the size of Serengeti. Beside the big five you can spot amongst others zebras, giraffe, cheetah, monkeys, different species of gnu and antelopes as well as hunting dogs (one third of the world population can be found in Selous). Spend the night just outside Selous on the banks of the Rufiji River. [BLD]

Day 8-9: Selous Game Reserve. You will spend the next two days at Selous Mbega Camp, with the following optional activities to choose from: Guided Walking Safari, Boat Cruise on the Rufiji River. Alternatively your guide will take you on game drives (included in the tour), when not participating in other activities. [BLD,BLD]

Day 10: Dar es Salaam. Depart after breakfast to Dar es Salaam with packed lunch en route. Drop off at Hotel of your choice or at the airport for your onward flight. [BL]
