JACI'S SAFARI LODGE
  • Luxurious game lodge
  • Malaria-free Madikwe Game Reserve
  • Eight thatched rooms
  • Exciting game-drives
Jaci’s Safari Lodge is set under a grove of tamboti trees on the edge of the Marico River, overlooking an established and well-used waterhole.

JACI'S LODGE's - MADIKWE GAME RESERVE:
Jaci's lodges are situated in the Malaria Free Madikwe Game Reserve boasting 75000 hectares of top ten territory.

You can expect to see Wild Dog, both Black and White Rhino, Hippo, Lion, Leopard, Spotted & Brown Hyena, Cheetah, Giraffe, Buffalo, over 400 Elephant, extensive plains game including Eland, Gemsbok, Springbok and Red Hartebeest, as well as over 340 species of birds.

JACI'S SAFARI LODGE:
The Main lodge is built in a curve around an ancient termite mound and masterfully blends into its magnificent surroundings. The interiors reflect Jaci's unique style and attention to detail.

To create a tented feel, the eight rooms and exclusive Nare Suite are all built incorporating a unique mixture of natural stone, shaggy thatched roofs and canvas walls.

A hand crafted rock bath and outdoor safari shower compliment the authentic African Safari atmosphere. Private wooden viewing decks overlook a small stream where birds and animals come to quench their thirst.

Jaci's has eight thatched rooms, each with a charming built in, en-suite hand-made rock bath with an outdoor "safari" shower, and fans to keep a gentle breeze flowing. Six of the rooms have twin beds and the seventh and eighth room have king size four-poster beds.

Each room has a hand made ceramic fireplace surrounded by a stone chimney. The deck in front of the room allows you to sit and enjoy the surrounding sights and smells of the bushveld - whilst watching the animals walking past to drink.
The walls in the bathroom are built using natural rock and the bath was constructed on site. In order to create a "tented feel" the rooms have canvas sides.

Children sharing with their parents are comfortably accommodated on camping stretchers in the rooms. Maximum 3 children per room.

Meals are prepared in the ultra modern kitchen in full view of the dining area. Dinners are eaten outside around the open fire in the boma (reeded enclosure) under the stars, or ‘braaied’ (barbequed) outside in the bush, surrounded by nature. There is a quiet reading space upstairs, as well as a well-stocked ethnic craft shop.

JACI'S SAFARI LODGE: NARE SUITE:
Originally built as Jan and Jaci's home, this exclusive bush retreat accommodates a maximum of 4 guests and has an unsurpassed African safari feel to it.

Both bedrooms have canvas sides with enormous gauze windows, a handcrafted stone bath and outdoor safari shower allowing you to indulge in all the sights and sounds Africa has to offer.

A private plunge pool, built within the wooden viewing deck, overlooks a fabulous waterhole and incorporates an outdoor dining area. Our chefs will prepare sumptuous meals for you in the privacy and luxury of your own bush retreat.

Equipped with a private game drive vehicle and professional guide you are assured of an exclusive African Safari to be remembered and repeated.

This exciting addition to Jaci’s is an exclusive “bush retreat”- so named because of the resident Buffalo Bull who frequents the waterhole in front of the Suite (along with the numerous other animal visitors) - accommodates a maximum of 4 guests, is the latest addition to Jaci’s.

The Nare Suite has a self contained kitchen (for our chefs to prepare meals for you in the luxury of your own retreat), lounge and outdoor dining area.

FACILITIES:
Jaci's is situated at an ideal spot overlooking an established and well used water hole, under a grove of Tamboti trees, on the edge of the Marico River. The main complex is different, open plan, curved around a huge anthill, under shady trees overlooking the water hole and on the banks of the Marico River.

Upstairs there is a quiet reading space. There is also a well-stocked ethnic craft shop.
Jaci's Safari Lodge now has a fully equipped gym situated between Jaci's Safari Lodge and Jaci's Tree lodge as well as a kiddies play area, overlooking the river.

There are only eight double rooms and the exclusive Nare Suite in this "must see", malaria free destination. Each one faces out over a dry river-bed which acts as a walkway for game on its way to and from the water hole. They each have a "tented" interior, walls of local stone and a cool thatch roof, for giving that special African bush feeling. A charming built in, en-suite hand-made rock bath with an outdoor "safari" shower, and fans to keep a gentle breeze flowing.

Between the early morning and evening game drives and walks, there is a cool swimming pool overlooking the river.

Lie in a hammock, sip an ice-cold drink, watch the birds, the butterflies and beasts, relax, unwind.

The day, the place, the ambience are yours, in peace.

Meals come from an ultra modern kitchen, spotless, in full view of the dining area. Dinners are eaten outside around the open fire in the boma under the stars, or out in the bush on a "braai", surrounded by nature.

6 to 10 August 2002 - Steve, Deb, Paul and Ben Thompson – Portsmouth, UK
“Our first time in Africa, first time on Safari and what an incredible place and experience. The Lodge was superb. Excellent food, unbelievable service, and attention to detail of a truly luxurious hotel. The animals continued to thrill until the last day. You never knew what was around the next corner or bush. We saw leopards twice! The lions were magnificent, we were actually lucky enough to see a lioness take a warthog and then witness the whole dynamics of pride behaviour at a kill..The suite’s waterhole gave us a view of elephants twice, giraffe, kudu, warthog and springbok. We have decided to keep coming back until we see aardvark and pangolin on the same drive. If we are lucky, it will never happen.
A truly great time!”

2nd November 2002 - Karen, Andrew, Helena and James Philpott.
“This was our 5th and final visit during our time working in South Africa. And as with the previous 4, an amazing experience we will never forget.
The Nare Suite is fantastic! We saw elephants from our bedroom and amazing birds flying past our room. Words cannot really do this little bit of paradise justice, apart from the Lodge and the game, we hope to have told you that it is the people who make it somewhere we will always want to return to from the cold of the UK.
Thank you for 5 amazing life experiences!” 17th November 2002 - Mike, Heather, Emily and William Rickard. “We have now been to Jaci’s on 5 occassions, and everytime the experience just gets better and better. Staying at the Nare Suite is just the perfect experience! Watching the elephants bathing after breakfast was the perfect finale to our visit. Excellent game drives with John D. We viewed Black Rhino here for the first time and a majestic male lion was a sight to behold.
The staff are superb as usual – great personal attention. Hope to return many more times!

Safari Journal of Patrick and Tanya from Switzerland
6 - 8 April 2000 - 2 weeks before Jaci's opened

The first guests at Jaci's, but not at Jaci's
"The reservation was cancelled from our side, because the camp is not open yet due to the rains!." These were Jaci's words which echoed over the South African telephone lines when we called to reconfirm our reservation at Jaci's Safari Lodge. Little realizing that these very words would be the beginning of the highlights of our entire South African trip one can well imagine how our hearts and spirits fell when we heard this dismal news.

However, Jaci (who seems to be able to solve all problems!) wasn't going to let such a minor mishap deter our stay. Without as much as an extra crackle over the line she offered us full accommodation in the old Guest Farmhouse which was also being used by the whole staff. What more could we have wished for - quite honestly, nothing!!!

We were collected in Johannesburg, driven to Pretoria Wonderboom airport and flown by bush-pilot Jan to Madikwe Game Reserve. Our landing was greeted by two of the big five. Beukes and William? "Agh no man. Elephants and Rhinos!!!"

The first game drive turned out to be "elephantastic" and when (not if!) we return to Madikwe, we shall look forward to seeing the elephant babies, which we actually witnessed "being made".

We'll also have to return so that in the future William, who is in dire need of a new bush knife (Swiss quality of course!!), will be able to cut his path through the thick bush. We won't have to pack any anti-aggressive Elephant pills as Beukes and William proved to us (most convincingly) that they are quite capable of communicating with the Elephants in "Elephantish".

After a beautiful sunset over the plains and a freezing night drive the wonderful warm atmosphere which greeted our return warmed our souls as much as the warmth from the welcome fire warmed our fingers and our toes.

The seven hour game drive, which took up most of the following day, started off with great promise - large elephant herds at the water hole, fighting giraffes - but ended in a fruitless search for a pack of lions. However, Lauren's muffins saved the day by saving our hunger! With great pride Jan (the chef) and Garth (the directing manager) showed us around Jaci's Safari Lodge. Unfortunately we didn't see it completed. However as an honoured compensation we are registered in the Construction Book and not in the Guest Book. But, one day we'll be in both.

After a late lunch followed by an early dinner we once again set off for the bush. This time we were fully equipped to face the cold night drive:

1. Big torches to pick up the light in the animal's eyes.
2. (Thanks to Beukes) a "monocular" to see "the eye" with more sureness and to be able to identify it as one; bravo Garth and Beukes!!!
3. New woolen blankets to keep us warm and comfortable throughout the expedition (well done Jaci!!!)

But even the wonder of a "monocular" cannot change Steenbok eyes into the eyes of baby Leopards - wishful thinking!!! Thanks for the good laugh Garth and Beukes!

Our last day arrived and the drive to the airport which was also our last game drive, couldn't have been more memorable. Mother Nature decided to bless us with one more unforgettable sight by presenting us with a magnificent, majestic lioness that stopped in our path to bid us farewell.

All these extraordinary experiences would never have enriched our lives, had it not been for Jaci and Jan (the sleeping pilot) whose warmth and generous hospitality just flowed. In our turn, with hearts and mind filled with these wonderful memories, we would like to thank you and all your staff for your kindness and for taking such royal care of us. We wish all of you at Jaci's beautiful Safari Lodge every wonderful success possible and as one would say in South Africa: "Tot siens en baie dankie!"
