SAVUTE GAME RESERVE, BOTSWANA
The Savute Game Reserve is a favoured game-viewing area in the southern region of Chobe National Park - an 11 700 square kilometre Big Five Park. Chobe and Savute are well known for their large herds of animals. Despite being an almost semi-desertlike area, a Savute safari offers an astounding game experience, with wildlife massing under the few available trees and around sources of water.
Great herds of elephant congregate around water at sunset, making for a breathtaking spectacle as the twilight gathers. Birdlife is excellent and the nights resound to a soundtrack of nocturnal wildlife.
The Savute channel runs through Savute and has the tendency to flood and dry up, unrelated to rain or the lack thereof. Large dead trees in the Channel are a photographer's dream and the Camelthorns are estimated to be more than 35 years old. |
