Immigration Facilities
All visitors require valid passports. Please check with us if you require a visa for your nationality and we will try to obtain it for you.
Health
It is advisable for visitors to take the usual prophylactics against malaria. For comfort, guests should bring a mosquito repellent. Club Makokola provides mosquito nets in all bedrooms.
Airport Tax
A departure tax of US$30 is levied on all international departures from Lilongwe International Airport and Chileka Airport near Blantyre. Passengers should pay this after checking in.
Electricity Supply
Malawi has a 220/240 volt system and uses the British 'square bayonet' pin type not the round type used in South Africa.
Driving
International driving licenses are acceptable in Malawi. Petrol is freely available but ensure you have a full tank before setting out for long distances and safaris. Make enquiries as to the location of pumps at the start of your journey. Check the spares on a hired car. In the outlying areas watch out for livestock, especially goats, crossing the road unexpectedly. In urban areas, take care of bicycles on the roads.
