The majestic Northern Drakensberg Mountains provide a spectacular backdrop to the under-stated luxury found at the Big Five Jackalberry Lodge in the Thornybush Game Reserve, Limpopo Province, South Africa.

More than 60 species of wildlife are found on this vast reserve including lion, leopard, buffalo, cheetah, rhino and elephant as well as several delightful and unusual species of fauna and flora.

Accommodation

The luxury accommodation for up to 16 guests creates a restful ethnic ambience in harmony with nature. Attention to detail and true South African hospitality will charm guests and leave them with a true sense of real beauty and warmth.

Every sense is indulged in the seven chalet style rooms with en-suite bathrooms with a bath and indoor and outdoor showers, air conditioning and patios offering comfort and sheer decadence with an African flair.

Weather Conditions

In summer (October to March) temperatures range from 16deg. C to 38deg. C and in winter (May, June & July) from 5deg. C to 26deg. C. Summer days and nights are generally hot and humid outdoors while winter days are mild and very comfortable with evenings and early mornings being cold. The Lowveld has summer rainfall. Please note that this is a MALARIA area.

What to take

Jackets for evenings, Camera Binoculars, Comfortable walking shoes, Insect repellant, Sun Screen, hat & batteries.

Precautions

Please note that this is a Malaria Low Risk area.
Both personal protection methods and anti-malarial medication are recommended. Personal protection measures include the use of an appropriate insect repellent containing Di-ethyl Toluamide (DEET). The wearing of clothing to conceal as much of the body as practical, sleeping under mosquito nets, and the spraying of spleeping quarters with a suitable Pyrethroid containing insecticide.

Child Policy

Children welcome however, children under the age of six years are not permitted on Game Drives. Cognisance must be taken of the fact that Jackalberry Lodge is unfenced and extra precautions need to be taken to ensure the safety of children.

General Information

Adjacent to the Greater Kruger National Park lies 10 500 hectares of pristine African bushveld, which is the 'Thornybush Game Reserve'. With an abundance of bird and mammal species including the
'Big 5'.

Explore the African bush on foot and from the back of an open safari vehicle. Discover the animal world, from the smallest termite to the tall and elegant giraffe, from the cute dwarf mongoose to the moody buffalo. Listen to the distant roar of the lion whilst relaxing around the campfire, or simply appreciate the silence, space and brilliant night skies.

Jackalberry Lodge is situated in the Thornybush Game Reserve on the edge of the Kruger National Park in South Africa.

Scheduled daily flights to Eastgate Airport on South African Express Airways in pressurized turbine and jet aircraft, approximately a one-hour flight from Johannesburg International Airport.

Eastgate Airport, booking code HDS, is located outside of Hoedspruit and is approximately 25 minutes by road from Thornybush Game Reserve.
Road transfers from Eastgate Airport to the reserve are available.

Chartered flights can be arranged directly into Jackaberry Lodge.
