Experienced game rangers and trackers will be on hand to take you on game drives and guided walking safaris. Experts on the natural intricacies of the Madikwe Reserve, they will reveal to you a world rich in ecological and cultural history, opening your mind to a truly unique and fascinating safari experience.

Mateya’s chefs delight in the pleasure of preparing only the finest cuisine. Committed to satisfying the desires of your palate, their wholesome and sumptuous creations will seduce you with the textures and flavours of the African bush. Special requests and dietary requirements will be catered for with culinary relish and skill.

Mateya’s very own health therapist is on hand to offer a complete range of full body relaxation therapies. Enjoyed in the comfort and privacy of your won suite, this may be the ideal way to totally soothe body and mind. So, whether you’re after sunrise or sundowner relaxation, this is just the type of invigoration to top or tail a perfect day’s excursion.

Wildlife and Birdlife
Guests to the lodge are assured the thrill of encountering the Super 7 – Buffalo, Cheetah, Elephant, Leopard, Lion, Rhino (Black and White) and Wild Dog, in addition to which, the Madikwe Reserve boasts among the best array of plains game on the continent and over 350 species of birds.

Accompanied by experienced rangers and trackers, you can venture on game drives in custom-built 4x4 vehicles, or track on guided walking safaris through the reserve.
Each excursion will be planned around guests’ specific interests, thereby ensuring you enjoy the full value of fulfilling your ideal safari experience.

Game Drive
Tackling the African bush in custom-built 4x4 game drive vehicles offers guests the thrill of getting close to game and tracking over vast distances.

With a maximum of four guests per drive each guest is assured the personal care and attention of our rangers who will introduce you to the intricate and wonderful features of the reserve.

Mateya’s vehicles are equipped with the following unique features:

* Day and night vision binoculars, offering excellent viewing at all times.

* Spacious pouches for books and photographic equipment.

* Shade cover and side flaps offering protection against wind and rain.

* Comfy warm blankets in case of cold weather.

* Flasks for hot coffee on those early morning excursions.

* Easy wheelchair access

Bush Walk
The Xoi San (Bushmen) of the Kalahari were considered to be masters in the art of tracking.

Specialist rangers and trackers at Mateya offer you a similar experience, opening the door onto a unique wildlife encounter.
