Day & Night Drives
At Tafika Camp in the South Luangwa, game drives are conducted morning and afternoon in open vehicles, accommodating 4 guests. Excellent photographic opportunities abound.
The afternoon drive departs Tafika late afternoon and is usually extended to a night drive returning after dark. The sunset is toasted overlooking a beautiful Luangwa scene and after ice cold sundowners a spotlight is brought into play, revealing the fascinating world of Africa's nocturnal wildlife. Night drives are not permitted in many other wildlife areas of Africa so this is a Luangwa treat.

The game viewing vehicles at Remote Africa Safaris have only 2 rows of seats, ensuring all guests are able to hear the guide and share his knowledge and insights. Each night drive vehicle has a dedicated and trained spotter, allowing the guide to pay full attention to the road, the animals and the safety of our guests!
At Tafika there are generally sufficient guides to ensure that guests are not restricted to the game viewing preference of “the group” but may walk, drive, cycle, microlight or remain in camp and paint! |
Walking Safaris
Walking safaris are accompanied by a Remote Africa Safaris guide, a National Parks armed scout and the all important tea bearer! One begins to understand the smells, the tracks and the vegetation, often missed from a vehicle. In time the interested observer becomes just another mammal in the park!

At Tafika Camp walking is offered as an optional morning or afternoon activity.
A unique walking experience in The South Luangwa National Park is Chikoko Walking Trails, where one enjoys a few days on foot, staying in comfortable bush camps: Chikoko Tree Camp and/or Crocodile River Camp. There are no roads or vehicles. Guests may walk from one camp to another, their luggage portaged on ahead, or remain at one camp if they choose. We recommend spending 2 days in each camp, hence a trail of 4 days duration.
The Mwaleshi River is the honey pot of the North Luangwa National Park. Ten kilometers from its confluence with the Luangwa River is Mwaleshi Camp, where the walking enthusiast can enjoy the magic of true wilderness in a setting perfectly integrated with the environment. An 8 day walking special combines both Chikoko Walking Trails in the South Park and Mwaleshi Camp in the North Luangwa. Email us for details.
Children under 12 years of age are not permitted to walk.

Mountain Bike Safaris
Mountain Bike outings are offered at Tafika Camp for energetic guests weary of traveling in vehicles and in need of something more active than walking.
Guests are accompanied by a guide and an armed escort scout following tracks and paths in the Game Management Area adjacent to Tafika. Sorties along the main roads through the National Park may also be undertaken. Animals regularly seen from the bikes include elephant, buffalo, impala, puku, warthog and zebra.
This is another unique activity offered by Remote Africa Safaris. You do not need to book in advance, this will be offered to interested guests as facilities allow. |

Cultural Visits
Cultural Visits to Mkasanga Village and its school may be arranged by Tafika Camp. A fascinating hour or two can be spent learning about the lives of the local people, being guided by the teachers of the school and women of the village. One may also visit the outpatients’ clinic built by the villagers, funded by the generosity of Remote Africa’s guests and agents, and now operated by the local health authority.
Remote Africa Safaris manages the “Tafika Fund” which provides Community Support in the form of books and materials for the local schools, teachers’ salaries, scholarships for high school pupils and adult skills development.

Private Guiding
Should your party prefer to have a private vehicle and guide during your stay this should be requested at the time of booking. Private guides requested ad hoc at camp can be provided depending on availability of guides and vehicles. An extra daily rate is applied.
Private guiding is particularly recommended for serious photographers or families with younger children. Private guides are offered both at Tafika and on the Chikoko walking trails. |
