One Day Trip to Bangweulu Swamps
Marvel at thousands of Black Lechwe and spot the extremely rare Shoebill stork.
The Bangweulu wetlands, just north of Kasanka, are one of Africa’s most spectacular wildlife secrets supporting an incredible diversity of water-birds and plains-birds including the most unusual and rarest, the Shoebill.
Also home to spectacular herds of the Black Lechwe, an attractive species found only in Bangweulu, the wetlands make a very desirable and rewarding destination for keen birdwatchers and seekers of Africa’s lesser known areas.
Opportunities abound to see other specials including Tsessebe, Side Striped Jackal, Sitatunga, Wattled Cranes, White Cheeked Bee Eaters, Rufous Bellied Herons, Lesser and Greater Swamp Warblers, Gallinules, Lesser Jacana and a profusion of waterfowl to name a few.

Remote Africa Safaris offer daytrips to view this amazing conservation area with its diverse flora and fauna, exceptional birdlife and many endangered species.
Tafika to Chimbwe airstrip in the Bangweulu swamps is a one hour sunrise flight. Accompanied by a knowledgeable Remote Africa Safaris' Guide and a delicious packed lunch prepared in our kitchens, you will be met and transferred by vehicle to awaiting boats.
Local staff act as Polers on your safari through the papyrus reeds and water lilies in search of Shoebills, viewing the huge diversity and variety of birds and animals along the way.
Returning to the vehicle mid-afternoon you transfer back to your Charter plane for your return flight to Tafika, Mwaleshi or your onward destination.
The best time to visit Bangweulu Swamps is May-July, when there is a greater chance of seeing the Shoebill. With the approach of the dry season (August onwards) boating is impossible due to low water levels, hence wildlife viewing is done on foot or by 4WD vehicle. The Shoebill will be a little more difficult to find at this time, however a profusion of other birdlife and game remains to delight every interest.
Numbers are restricted to four people plus a Tafika guide. Mwaleshi guests may also use this package which includes flight, lunch, boat or drive around Bangweulu and an accompanying Remote Africa Safaris guide. Costs vary on time and flight routing so PLEASE CONTACT US FOR QUOTATION.
