ITINERARY:
Day 1 - Friday -
Meet/Assistance at the airport and transfer to hotel Tropicana. Day-use room and breakfast. Evening transfer to the train station for a departure at 21hr35, arrival 02hr00, transfer to Lope hotel.
Day 2 - Saturday - Morning safari by 4-wheel drive in the savannas to look for elephants, buffalo, red river hogs, different types of antelopes such as the sitatunga or the yellow back duiker. Afternoon, walk in the forest, looking for traces of animals and following the tracks of primates and other species.
Day 3 - Sunday -
Morning excursion by dugout canoe on the Ogoou river and visit of ancient rock engravings. Afternoon by 4-wheel drive into the savannas and gallery forests.
Day 4 - Monday - Morning forest walk, afternoon leisure around the swimming pool.
Day 5 - Tuesday -
Morning, the last safari into the savannas. Departure by train to Moanda at 14hr00, arrival 17hr30 and transfer to Parc de la Lekedi at Bakoumba. Situated south of Moanda and Franceville, Parc de la Lekedi is the successful result of an astonishing reconversion project. Bakoumba is the place with the longest mono-cable in the world (76km) and has become a "nature" town. On 14.000ha has been set up: fish culture, breeding of wild animals, ecotourism, mushroom production, roof tiles, pottery, weaving of raphia etc. For economic and ecological reasons, the materials of the mono cable has been recycled in many ways: platforms for observation of the animals, the ties of the railway used as fence posts, and most spectacular, a 30m high bridge of 360m long overlooking the canopy , under which a colony of mandrills is living. On a small island in the lake, a program to release chimpanzees into the wild has been set up and can be visited. A terrarium has been created.
Day 6 - Wednesday -
Parc de la Lekedi and visit of the several areas of the park.
Day 7 - Thursday -
Morning visit of the park. Afternoon, excursion to the creeper bridge (liana bridge) and the waterfalls of Poubara, and transfer to Franceville for a flight back to Libreville. Transfer to hotel Tropicana and breakfast.
Day 8 - Friday - Transfer to the airport and fly at 1515 to Gamba. Overnight Sette Cama Lodge.
Day 9 - Saturday -
Depart for the heart of Loango with picnic lunch , and travel by boat and on foot . Chance to spot animals on the beach and in the forests . Picnic on the wild beaches and return to Sette Cama to overnight Night at the lodge.
Day 10 - Sunday - Safari in Loango Parc and look for elephants, buffalos, antelopes, hippo's, apes and birds
Day 11 - Monday -
Transfer to Gamba for 0945 flight and fly back to Libreville. Day-use room at Tropicana. End afternoon, check-in for your international flight.

GABON ORNITHOLOGICAL TOUR - 11 Day

The Picathartes is a sought after resident bird species of Gabon that will interest any avid birdwatcher. Get the chance to see many bird species on this specialised tour. ITINERARY:
Day 1 - Friday - Met on arrival, day room at Tropicana. Evening train to Lope 2130 - 0200. Overnight Lope Hotel.
Day 2 - Saturday - Transfer by road to Mikongo, a camp deep in the forest in Lope Reserve. Whilst here we will walk with the ECOFAC guides and researchers, looking for gorillas, mandrills, chimps and the many other primate and bird species here ( Picathartes being a sought after resident species ), as well as other mammals - elephant, buffalo, forest hog etc. Note - this is thick forest, and sightings of game are often close and fleeting!! All travel is on foot.
Day 3 - Sunday - Mikongo - as above. Returning to Lope Hotel in evening.
Day 4 - Monday - On foot in the Lope area, and along the river. Lope Hotel.
Day 5 - Tuesday - Morning safari, afternoon train to Franceville - 1400 - 1900. Meet, transfer to Lekoni on the Bateke Plateau.
Day 6 - Wednesday - Walks on the plateau area. Overnight as above.
Day 7 - Thursday - Morning bird walks, transfer to airport for flight to Libreville. Tropicana Hotel.
Day 8 - Friday - Connect to flight to Gamba at 07hr45. Transfer to Sette Cama Lodge by boat. After lunch, safari by vehicle into the park.
Day 9 - Saturday - Excursion by vehicle through the park, where it is possible to see elephants, buffalo, sitatunga and sometimes gorillas etc on the beach. Overnight Sette Cama.
Day 10 - Sunday - Full day in the area, returning to lodge for the night.
Day 11 - Monday - Return to Gamba for flight to Libreville at 1700. Connect to flights out.
