ITINERARY:

Day 1 -
(Daily departures) Depart Johannesburg on Air Tanzania flight at 13h40 to Kilimanjaro via Dar es Salaam, arriving Kilimanjaro 20h35. You will be met on arrival and transferred to the Impala Hotel (or similar), Arusha, for overnight on a bed and breakfast basis. (Dinner own account)

Day 2 -
This morning you will be collected by your driver/guide for the start of your 5 night safari. Drive to Lake Manyara. Afternoon game drive in the Lake Manyara National Park. Overnight - Lake Manyara Hotel located on the escarpment with spectacular views down across the lowland areas of the Great Rift Valley.

Day 3 -
A full day's game viewing as we wind our way up through the bustling town of Karatu and into the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. From here we make our way through to the great plains of the Serengeti beyond. Depending on the number of animals and magnificent birdlife we stop to observe more closely along the way, we should reach our lodge by late afternoon. Dinner and overnight - Seronera Wildlife Lodge

Day 4 - In the morning a game drive followed by lunch. In the afternoon another game drive. Dinner and overnight at your Serengeti lodge. The Serengeti is unequalled for its beauty and contains more than three million large mammals spread over the vast endless plains. It is here, at certain times of the year, that we may encounter the breathtaking spectacle of the annual wildebeest migration, where one and a quarter million wildebeest trek in columns of up to forty kilometres long in search of grazing, drawing with them their predators and numerous other species of game. From January to March the herds can largely be found in the southern area, proceeding north through the Western Corridor during June and July before entering Kenya's Masai Mara. They return south in November to repeat this amazing instinctive procession all over again. Even if your trip does not coincide with the migration period, you will still observe a veritable feast of fascinating wildlife in this central Serengeti zone.

Day 5 - Depart after breakfast with a picnic lunch and drive via Olduvai Gorge, viewing game en route to Ngorongoro. It is at Olduvai Gorge where, in 1959, Mary Leakey made her groundbreaking discovery of a hominid (human-like) skull dating back 1.8 million years. Since then other hominid species, possibly our early ancestors, have been found in the area dating as far back as 3.7 million years. The whole area is often referred to as the 'cradle of mankind.' Overnight - Ngorongoro Wildlife Lodge.

Day 6 - After breakfast we descend steadily down the steep 610 metre sides of the crater from our lodge on the crater rim. A morning's game viewing in the crater is almost guaranteed to turn up four of the Big Five, as well as zebra, gazelle, warthog and a rich variety of birds, all viewed against the backdrop of the thickly forested crater walls. Return to the lodge for a late lunch. In the afternoon drive to Lake Manyara for dinner and overnight at the Lake Manyara Hotel.

Day 7 - After breakfast return to Arusha, arriving at around lunchtime (lunch own account). Overnight at the Impala Hotel (or similar) on a bed and breakfast basis.

Day 8 - Early morning transfer to Kilimanjaro airport for your return flight on Air Tanzania departing at 08h00 via Dar es Salaam. Arrival time in Johannesburg is at 13h00.
