UGANDA NGAMBA ISLAND CHIMPANZEE SANCTUARY - 2 Day
|
Chimpanzees are an endangered species found only in the forests of Africa. Experience a rare and incredible opportunity to visit chimpanzees in a near-wild setting while helping to conserve their precious habitat and contribute to the conservation of their species.
Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary offers chimpanzee encounters including:
Day trips:
Depart from Entebbe Pier on the mainland and travel by boat to the island (approximately 45 minutes by speedboat or 1 hours by motorised traditional boat).
|
|
View either a morning or afternoon feeding of the chimpanzees from the visitors platform area along the edge of the sanctuary fence, hear an informative talk by sanctuary staff, kayaking, swimming on the equator, viewing a neighbouring fishing village, fantastic bird-watching and other wildlife encounters, or just sunbathe and relax!
Overnight Chimpanzee Excursion:
An excursion over two days, staying in an East African style tented camp on the island with each of the tents situated on its own private wooden deck overlooking the lake, accommodating two persons (twin beds) in comfort. All linen is supplied, and each tent has en suite bathroom facilities and solar lighting. All meals are prepared and served to you by friendly camp staff in either our relaxed covered dining area or open dining area beside the lake. Meals are substantial with several tasty courses for dinner and local specialties such as fresh daily catches from the lake, when possible. Hot beverages including tea and coffee are available at all times on a self serve basis. Cold drinks are available on a cash sale basis including water. Alcohol and sodas available by prior arrangement on a cash basis, or bring your own!
Life on the island:
View two of the day time chimpanzee feedings from the visitors platform along the edge of the sanctuary fence, plus the bedtime and early morning feeding routines at the overnight chimpanzee holding facility and unlimited use of the other island facilities and optional activities.
You may like to take out one of the kayaks around the island bays searching for wildlife such as monitor lizards, otters and abundant bird life (154 recorded) or view a local fishing village, go for a sunset cruise, fish or just relax on your tent's private deck overlooking the lake with sundowners while watching thousands of bats emerge from the forest during a colourful African sunset.
During your stay on Ngamba, as well as our camp staff, a CSWCT staff member will be resident on the island and available to provide information, and answer any questions on chimpanzees.
Forest walks with the chimpanzees:
The Forest Walk experience offers you an opportunity to join a small group of young chimpanzees on a one hour walk through their forest habitat, either in the late afternoon or very early morning. A maximum of three visitors are allowed in the forest for each walk, always accompanied by trained CSWCT staff for your safety and enjoyment. You will be in the company of several chimpanzees ranging in age from 1 year to 8 years of age and you will have direct contact. There are very specific instructions regarding inoculations, health requirements, clothing, cameras, glasses, and behaviour when signing up for this unique opportunity as these chimpanzees are used to human contact and they will play-bite, climb on you, grab your glasses, and pull your hair or even just walk along holding your hand. And that's where the fun just begins!
The forest walk may be included as part of your overnight experience on Ngamba Island described above.
The Forest Walk on Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary Special requirements:
