SOUTH LUANGWA NATIONAL PARK Elephant, buffalo, eland, greater kudu, waterbuck, lion and hyena are commonplace. Luangwa is justifiably famous for its night game viewing, with spotlights, in search of leopards which are often seen. |
Tena Tena
Owned and run by Robin & Jo Pope, this camp is
in a secluded area within the National Park. Six large custom-made tents each
have an attached bathroom with flush loo and shower. The thatched dining room
and bar stand on a wide bend of the Luangwa River. Open June - October.
Nkwali
Sister camp to Tena Tena and located in the south
overlooking the National Park, Nkwali accommodates a maximum 12 guests in bamboo
chalets with en suite bathrooms partially open to the sky! Open April to New
Year.
Robin Pope Walking Safaris
Raised in Zambia, Robin Pope has worked in the
Luangwa Valley as a safari guide and camp manager for 18 years. Mobile walking
safaris are undertaken in the Mupadadzi River area of the Luangwa Valley, inaccessible
for most. You will walk approximately 10 km a day. Three safari camps will be
erected, and moved ahead by vehicle during your walks. Maximum 6 guests. Mid
June - September only.
Wildlife Camp
This small rustic camp is on the banks of the
Luangwa River. Apart from a campsite and bar / restaurant area, it has four
on suite chalets set apart from the public areas with their own private dining
room. Walks, night and day game drives in open vehicles are part of the daily
activities. Open all year.
Kafunta River Lodge
Kafunta is a new, upmarket lodge (opened 1998)
set in riverine forest on the banks of the Luangwa River. The 8 thatched chalets,
set on stilts, overlook the South Luangwa National Park. Each has a private
veranda and en suite facilities. Take part in game drives, walking safaris and
night drives accompanied by experienced safari guides. Open all year. For more information and photos!
Chinzombo Safari Lodge
On the banks of the Luangwa River, accommodation
is in thatched stone chalets with en suite modern bathrooms and electricity.
Maximum 18 guests. Small plunge pool and bar area overlooking the river. Open
all year. Guided Walking safaris to Chinzombo's Chamilandu and Kuyenda bush
camps can also be arranged - maximum six guests. Both camps consist of grass
and thatch bungalows, mosquito nets and modern toilet facilities Open June -
October.
LIVINGSTONE - VICTORIA FALLS
The former capital of Zambia is situated about
8 kilometres from Victoria Falls. Yet, despite its growing popularity amongst
discerning travellers, Livingstone (and Zambia in general) has resisted the
temptation to appeal to the mass market. This is the perfect alternative to
the hustle and bustle of Victoria Falls town and a great finish to any safari.
The River Club
River Club is situated on the Zambezi River, 18
km upstream from the Victoria Falls, facing the Zambezi National Park. This
upmarket lodge has 10 open-fronted, split-level', timber and thatched chalets,
with mosquito nets, overhead fans and en suite facilities. The main colonial
style 'farmhouse' houses the dining room, drawing room, reception and shop.
Activities include sunrise and sunset trips along the river in a banana boat,
fishing, visits to nearby villages, the Livingstone Museum and town, visits
to the Zambian side of the Victoria Falls, game drives into Mosi-oa-Tunya Zoological

Chundukwa Tree Lodge
Situated about 30 kilometers upstream from the
Victoria Falls, Chundukwa have created unique, en suite, tree houses built on
stilts overlooking the Zambezi River. Activities offered include sundowner cruises,
canoe safaris and horse safaris. Chundukwa also has a comfortable tented camp
in Kafue National Park which is ideal for walking safaris.
