Amaan Bungalows, Zanzibar
Amaan Bungalows is situated close to the local fishing village of Nungwi on the north coast. This is a vibey, fun area which the younger set enjoy. The bungalows with en suite facilities provide standard grade accommodation with open flow windows keeping you cool at night. Mosquito nets and ceiling fans are provided in all units. There is no hot water in the rooms (apart from Type A seaview units which do have hot water), however this should not provide a discomfort as Zanzibars climate is hot year round. There is an open lapa dining room on the cliff overlooking the beach and the PADI dive centre can arrange dives and snorkelling. Prices are based on the new Type A seaview bungalows.

Blue Bay Beach Resort, Zanzibar

Blue Bay Beach Resort is situated on one of the finest, wide, white, sandy beaches on the island of Zanzibar. Located on the east coast in an area known as Kiwengwa, the hotel is only 45 minutes drive from the town and the airport on a recently built tarmac road. The hotel has beautifully furnished bedroom cottages located on rising ground overlooking verdant gardens, the public areas, the pool, the more than 1 000 beautiful palm trees and the sparkling white beach. All 88 rooms (6 Garden view, 74 Superior sea view and 8 Suites) have four poster beds with mosquito netting, en suite bathroom, air conditioners, ceiling fans, satellite television, minibar, hairdryers and telephones. The hotel provides a fitness centre featuring a range of modern equipment, a floodlit tennis court, 5 star PADI scuba diving centre and a watersports centre with windsurfers, canoes and sailing boats. Breezes Beach Club, Zanzibar
Breezes Beach Club lies on the eastern side of the island near the village of Bwejuu; a truly unique place set in beautiful landscaped grounds. It is situated 50 km from Stonetown and has untouched beaches as far as the eye can see. There are 70 air-conditioned rooms with bathroom, ceiling fans, fridge and personal safe. The 20 Suites, with large sea view balcony and sofa set, are located on the upper floor of the bungalows. The 40 Deluxe rooms and 10 Standard/Garden rooms are located on the ground floor with a terrace. All rooms have been decorated with Zanzibari carved furniture & artifacts. Chapwani Private Island, Zanzibar
Chapwani Private Island is a natural paradise - 16 acres covered with massive ancient baobab trees, coconut palms, passion fruit and giant cacti. The rich tropical vegetation harbours abundant wildlife including a herd of miniature antelope and many species of tropical birds. On this magical little private island there are only 5 bandas with a total of 10 rooms, each with its own terrace on the beach. The rooms are spacious, with a large bathroom and separate toilet. They are decorated with colourful African prints and furnished with local antiques and four poster beds. The restaurant on the waters edge provides a unique blend of Oriental, African and Italian cuisine. The island is surrounded by small coves, sandy bays and crystal blue waters and is perfect for snorkelling, windsurfing and diving at the many interesting locations. With a maximum of 20 guests, it is highly secluded and tranquil, yet is only 15 minutes with our boat from bustling Stonetown. Chapwani is a perfect base for discovering the whole of Zanzibar and spice tours and excursions can be arranged from the island.

Chavda Hotel, Zanzibar

Fundu Lagoon, Zanzibar
Fundu Lagoon is a unique resort designed for groups of friends looking to escape the usual resort style hotel, as well as divers and water sports enthusiasts wanting a combination of luxury and activities. There are 20 bungalows which are built on hardwood stilted platforms, located discreetly amongst the trees on the beach and in the hillside. Each is private but has easy access to the amenities. Each bungalow has its own hardwood panelled bathroom with walk-in shower and hot & cold running water. Specially designed canvas interiors sit beneath Zanzibari-style roofing (makuti palm). Coconut wood furniture adorns the individual south-facing balconies.Combined with mini-bar, ceiling fans and full room service provides the added comforts. A short walk from your bungalow takes you to the restaurant and bar under a magnificent makuti roof. A number of different levels offer plenty of space to retreat quietly and read a book, or to sit with a group of friends - either inside or out! Meals provided are of high quality, the emphasis, of course, on locally caught fresh seafood - but with meat and vegetarian dishes in plentiful supply - prepared in sumptuous Zanzibari-style! A little further along is the Jetty Bar which forms a stunning setting for the traditional Swahili barbecues - with an opportunity to stay up and party through the night! During the day the Jetty Bar and its decking provide a beautiful spot for sunbathing and making use of the warm waters of the Indian Ocean. Tucked away is a TV room with satellite TV, low-level cushioned seating - for those who want to be in touch! There is also a pool table and darts in the bar. There is a PADI centre for the divers, and courses are also offered. Snorkelling is also very popular. The Boutique stocks a range of Fundu Lagoon clothing, jewellery, African artefacts and a small selection of toiletries.

Kinasi Lodge, Zanzibar
Kinasi is a small luxury lodge for 30 guests. Built with natural materials and traditional palm thatching, the lodge is situated on a hillside overlooking the bay and islands of Chole, Jibondo and Juani. The large rooms are decorated with hand-made furniture, each with an elevated wooden verandah complete with hammock, and private bathroom. The cuisine at Kinasi is first class. Forest walks, swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving, game fishing, sailing, birdwatching and exploring the ancient ruins all provide lots to do. Swimming pool and small boutique.

Langi Langi Beach Bungalows, Zanzibar
Langi Langi Beach Bungalows is abudget hotel situated on the north coast at Nungwi. The 14 rooms are self-contained with cold and hot water, air conditioning, ceiling fans, mosquito netting and a veranda. Most have ocean views. A roof top restaurant serves breakfasts, snacks and a variety of continental, Indian, Chinese and local specialities for lunch and dinner. Hotel facilities include a comfortable lounge with satellite TV. A dive school is located only 1 minutes walk away and the hotel is only a 2 minute walk from the beach. At night there are many small beach bars around with music.

Mapenzi Beach Club, Zanzibar

Mapenzi Beach Club is situated on the north east coast; about 45 kms from Stonetown. The resort faces a splendid beach of white sand and blends in perfectly with the surrounding tropical landscape of beach and gardens. The 87 spacious comfortable rooms are all on the ground floor. Each room is furnished in the typical East African style and is fitted with private bathroom and verandah, mosquito net, safety deposit box, ceiling fan and air-conditioning. The resort offers a swimming pool, 2 boutiques, a discotheque, a daily evening entertainment programme and there is a diving centre closeby. Use of windsurfing equipment (non-professional) and canoes are included free of charge to guests booked on Mapenzis fully inclusive rate. Professional windsurfing equipment, snorkelling equipment, catamarans, laser boats, fishing by traditional dhow and bike hire are available at an extra charge. Soft drinks and beer/wine are included from 10h00 to 18h00 and all drinks (excluding champagne, premium brand spirits and bottled wine) from 18h00 to 24h00. Package prices are based on Garden rooms however, for a small supplement, Seafront rooms are available on request.

Maruhubi Beach Villas, Zanzibar
Maruhubi Beach Villas is a brand new property (opened August 2004) situated just 10 minutes drive north of Stonetown on the seafront. The 5 stone-built villas offer the option of self-catering or full hotel service, and have spectaculars views west across the sea to Chapwani and Changu Islands and south to Stonetown. The comfortable bedrooms are furnished with large double Zanzibari beds, mosquito nets and fan (air-conditioning an available option). There are large mosquito netted windows allowing free air movement in the rooms. The seafront restaurant is complimented with a fully stocked bar. There is a small health centre, nestled appropriately in a quiet location.

Matemwe Bungalows, Zanzibar
Matemwe Bungalows is situated on the northeast coast of the island, approximately one and a half hour drive from Stonetown. The bandas, restaurant/bar and kitchen are built from local materials (coral stone for the walls and dried palm leaves for the roofs) in the traditional style appropriate for this part of the world. The flower garden surrounding the buildings forms a colourful oasis. All 16 twin-bedded bandas as well as the restaurant are directly overlooking the Indian Ocean and catch the ocean breeze. Each room has a personal touch and an individual design but all share common features such as mosquito nets and individual verandas with hammocks. Solar power takes care of the lighting and hot water. The food consists of fresh catches of the day as well as meat, fresh fruit and vegetables. Salome's Garden, Zanzibar
Salomes Garden is a beautiful 19th Century plantation house which was completely restored and refurbished in 1997. It is situated in Bububu, 4 miles to the north of Stonetown and is surrounded by 18 acres of private tropical gardens full of bougainvillea which run down to the beach. All of the rooms and bathrooms are very large. The house is designed for 8 (4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms) but can sleep a maximum of 10. The whole house is furnished with Zanzibari antiques, original colonial furniture, Persian carpets and kilims, lamps and shades from India and Turkey and traditional tiles from the Arab world in the bathrooms. The beds are all traditional Zanzibari four poster beds with mosquito nets and colonial fans. While most guests tend to eat out in the many excellent restaurants in town, the house does have a professional cook and kitchen.

Serena Inn, Zanzibar
